Frequently Asked Questions
Below are some of the questions we are asked
most frequently. If you have any other questions contact us at
"info" at cobhampc dot org.
-
Which translation of the bible do you use?
The version used in our services is the New
King James Version.
However members of the congregation use a variety of translations for
personal study. Amongst native English speakers these are predominantly
the KJV, NIV, and NKJV and now the ESV
-
Which hymnal do you use?
We use two versions of the psalms: the 1650 Scottish Psalter and the
2000 Free Church Psalmody. The
latter is an entirely new metrical translation of the psalms that the
Free Church of Scotland undertook during the closing years of the 20th
century. The tunes we use span from 16th century psalm tunes through to
tunes written in the last 5 years as part of the new psalmody project.

Do I need an attestation from my church?
No. You
do not need to formally become a member to attend and become involved
in the life of the church. Before you could take communion we would not
require you to become a member either but we would require some
assurance that you understood what you were doing - which only someone
who knows Christ as their saviour can - in this case either a simple
profession of faith or an attestation (known a disjunction certificate
in the Free Kirk) would be needed. The same is required for membership,
which is open to all believers not just presbyterians.top of page
